A Life Rewritten by the Aegean
A journey from Colorado to the Aegean — finding home in the spaces between.
What Echoes of Turkey Is
Hi, I’m Rachel — the storyteller behind Echoes of Turkey.

Four years ago, I left the familiar comfort of Colorado for a home along the Aegean Sea. I didn’t know how much a place could change a person — how language, culture, and the rhythm of everyday life could rewrite the way you see the world.
Here, life is slower. Mornings begin with tea, not coffee. Friendships form over shared plates, not rushed schedules. Stone houses hold secrets, and the sea has a way of reminding you what matters. Türkiye hasn’t just become home — it has reshaped me in a thousand subtle ways.
This space is where I gather those changes.
Stories from markets and mountain roads.
The comfort of hospitality.
The challenges, the beauty, and the learning that comes with beginning again.

Why I Write
Writing has always been how I make sense of the world. When I moved to Türkiye, there weren’t many voices describing the quiet beauty of daily life here — the small rituals, the improvised solutions, the friendships formed over tea and long, lingering dinners. I wanted to create a space where those moments could live. A space that shows that life abroad is not just sunsets and sightseeing — it’s learning, growing, adapting, and finding comfort in the unexpected.
Echoes of Turkey began as a way to capture stories I never want to forget: the laughter in local markets, the first time I ventured to the grocery store alone, the mix of languages at dinner tables, the shock of winter mornings without central heating, and the warmth of neighbors who treat you like family before they even know your last name.
Türkiye and writing Echoes of Turkey has changed me in ways I couldn’t have imagined — and I believe stories like these deserve to be shared. If you’re dreaming of a slower life, or wondering what it’s really like to build a home across the sea, I hope these echoes make you feel seen, inspired, and a little braver.
Life here is not always easy. I miss holidays back home, I wrestle with the language, and I’ve learned that self-growth sometimes looks like hanging laundry on the balcony while the neighborhood screams from the ezan, the roosters, and stray dogs, and the cat fights. But the trade has been worth it: community, closeness, and the slow magic of living by the sea.
This is where I share what I’ve learned — the challenges, the humor, and the simple joys that changed me.
If you’re curious about Türkiye — or building a life you love from the inside out — I’m glad you found your way here.
